Gertrude “Trudy” Girlanda Sperl Armijo

(aka Mutt, Granny T & Great Granny T) June 13, 1929 - January 11, 2022

Trudy is now resting with our Lord to spend Eternity with her loved ones in heaven. Greeting Gertrude in Heaven are her parents August and Franziska Sperl, her husband of 56 years Emilio Armijo Sr. (US Army Vet), both her children, Emilio Armijo Jr. and Linda Armijo Genchi, and her sister Louise Pölzl.

Born in Salzburg, Austria, and the oldest of six children, Trudy witnessed the ravages of WWII, and yet her purpose in life was to share her incredible intellect, her wealth of knowledge, and her unmatched artistic talents (seamstress, quilting and ceramics) with the world. She loved to read. Her hidden talent was singing. Teaching was her calling. Her teaching career spanned over thirty-two years at Calvert Street Elementary School in Woodland Hills, while she also found a special place in her heart for children with special needs. In retirement, Trudy enjoyed 20 years in Ardmore, Oklahoma before returning to California.

Trudy made this world a better place and left her legacy on everyone she encountered. As she sings with the angels above, she is survived by her siblings; Annie Willequer, Eleonore “Elli” Huber, August Sperl, Raimund Sperl, their spouses, many nieces and nephews; son-in-law Joseph Genchi, grandkids Denise Erickson and Stacie Genchi, and their families; and the many students, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. Please celebrate her life in your own way, however, reading a book (or 92 in honor of her age) would be quite appropriate. Well done Gertrude!
