Sign-ups open for fall youth YMCA basketball

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA fall basketball league is taking sign-ups. The season begins Sun., Sept. 10.

The coed league is semi-competitive and focuses on skill development and having fun. Each child plays and learns teamwork and basketball fundamentals.

No playing experience is necessary. Practice and game locations will be announced.

The league is divided into five grade divisions: Pre-K/ kindergarten, first and second grades, third and fourth grades, fifth and sixth grades, and sixth through eighth grades (open division).

Sign-ups and skill assessment will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 19; 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thurs., Aug. 24, and 9 to 11 a.m. Sat., Aug. 26 at the outdoor courts at Westlake Community Park, 31107 Thousand Oaks Blvd., Westlake Village.

Pre-K and kindergarten players can sign up on any of these dates; no assessment is required.

The league fee is $115 for pre-K and kindergarten and $165 for all other levels. An additional $40 membership fee is charged for YMCA nonmembers.

League fees include a uniform and trophy.

The Southeast Ventura County YMCA serves the Conejo Valley, Moorpark and Simi Valley.
