Grants make a local impact

Teachers from throughout Ventura County were honored with $13,500 in grants for developing innovative lessons for their students.

At a recent ceremony in Oxnard, the Ventura County Office of Education presented 16 IMPACT II grants to teachers from nine schools in six districts. The grants are funded by local businesses and organizations that wish to promote creative teaching practices.

Laura McMurry, Ryan Huisenga and Jill Veres of Moorpark High School received a grant for their Health Science Academy Political Campaign 2016.

The winners were selected by judging teams comprised of educators and community members.

IMPACT II is a curriculum-sharing and recognition program for educators in K-12 in all subjects. Since 1993, Ventura County educators have received more than $350,000 in sponsor-funded grants.
