Chamber calls for award nominations

By Caitlin Trude

The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its annual Community Awards Luncheon on May 16.

Residents are invited to nominate outstanding members of the community who have gone above and beyond for the city.

The luncheon will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Moorpark Country Club, 11800 Championship Drive.

“(The awards are) a way for the Chamber, the city, etc., to to show our appreciation for what the people do who get these awards,” said Moorpark Chamber of Commerce chair Richard Buchalter. “I think the name says it all. We are such a close-knit community.”

Moorpark residents can nominate one person in each of the 10 categories that recognize local business owners, volunteers, educators and public servants. The deadline for nominations is May 1.

The Hometown Hero award will honor a resident who consistently supports Moorpark charities and is the go-to person for anyone who needs help, event organizers said.

The Legend Award will honor a person who’s lived in the city for 15 years or more and actively supports community events and organizations.

The Public Servant of the Year award is given to someone who works in police or fire services or for the City of Moorpark.

There will also be two Youth of the Year categories to recognize children and young adults younger than 21 who have not yet graduated, are active in their school’s clubs and organizations and step up to volunteer around their community.

The other award categories are: Educator of the Year, Nonprofit/Service Organization of the Year, Senior of the Year, Woman of the Year, Man of the Year and Volunteer of the Year.

“I always look forward to the camaraderie and the sense of family that we get within the Moorpark community, all of us getting together, recognizing each other (and) working together for the greater good of the city,” Buchalter said. “We enjoy what we do, we believe in what we do (and) we love what we do.”

To nominate a Moorpark resident for any of the community awards or to RSVP for the luncheon, call the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce at (805) 529-0322 or visit the website www.moorparkchamber.com.
