Celebs get cooking in Moorpark
It’s always fun to see the places you know on TV or in film, which is why we’re certain more than a few of our Moorpark Acorn readers will tune in to watch “Rachael vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off,” scheduled to air this Sunday on the Food Network.
This week the show features Underwood Family Farms in Moorpark and all of the outstanding produce grown right here in our backyard.
The show, now in its second season, pits two teams of four celebrities—one team led by Rachael Ray, the other by Guy Fieri—as the contestants battle in weekly cooking competitions to see who is the best chef. Each week, one of the celebrities is voted off until the last one standing wins a $50,000 grand prize, which is donated to a charity of their choosing.
Although the episode was shot in the early summer of 2012 (and we’re in a bit of a cold spell right now), most of the folks under a foot of snow watching the show will pine for Southern California’s warm climate. It may be cooler right now—tonight’s low is 32—but the Moorpark Farmers Market is still open for business and offering some of the freshest, best-tasting produce in the world. Underwood Family Farm off Sunset Valley Road is closed until March (you have to give those veggies time grow!), but its sister location at 5696 Los Angeles Ave. in Somis, still offers a whole host of farm fresh fruits and vegetables.
So grab some popcorn or maybe cook up your favorite meal, get comfy in your chair and settle in to watch celebs battle it out against one of Moorpark’s most recognizable backdrops this Sun., Jan. 13. Check local listings for airtime.
We’re sure it’ll have the rest of America eating their hearts out.
