3 charged in wrench beating

By Darleen Principe

Two people were treated for their injuries in the hospital last week after they were allegedly held down and beaten with a wrench.

The victims, whose identities have not been released, were involved in a fight over a noise complaint in the 500 block of Spring Road in Moorpark.

Patrol deputies responded to the fight scene at about 11 a.m. Tues., May 8.

Moorpark residents Manuel Ceja, Samuel Rios and Ignacio Sanchez, all 19, were arrested and booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, police said.

According to the victims’ statements, Ceja and Rios allegedly held the victims down on the ground during the fight. While the victims were restrained, Sanchez allegedly hit them with a wrench.

The victims were taken to a local hospital where they were treated and released. One victim required sutures to his head, authorities said.

Ceja, Rios and Sanchez were immediately booked at the Ventura County Jail with a bail of $20,000 each.

As of Tuesday, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department website states the three men were released from custody.

All three are scheduled to appear at Ventura County Superior Court on July 16.

None of the suspects has a criminal record in Ventura County, according to court records.

Moorpark police did not return phone calls before this week’s deadline.
