Government scientists to shed light on 1959 nuclear accident
      The Department of Energy will host a public workshop to explore various perspectives on an accident that occurred in the Sodium Reactor Experiment in July 1959 at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sat., Aug. 29 at the Grand Vista Hotel, 999 Enchanted Way, Simi Valley.

VISTA bus schedule has changed
      The Ventura County Transportation Commission has announced new schedules for the VISTA buses effective immediately. The changes should improve commute options in Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley.

      Democrat Marta Jorgensen has announced she’ll run in next year’s 24th Congressional District race, a seat Republican Elton Gallegly has held for 22 years. Gallegly (R-Thousand Oaks) beat Jorgensen in 2008 with 56 percent of the votes.

Baby boomers can relive their youth at concert

      Last week’s front page story on a proposal to build a water filtration plant in Moorpark incorrectly stated that Councilmember Roseann Mikos currently represents the city on the Fox Canyon Groundwater Management Agency Board. Mikos did serve on the board for four years, but her last term ended in 2005.
