      The SoCal Curling Club will host an open house and learn to curl session for anyone interested in the sport from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. Sat., Aug. 1 at the Easy Street Iceoplex, 131 W. Easy St., Simi Valley. The session is open to beginning and experienced curlers 12 years and older.

Race for a cure for lung cancer
      The third annual Free to Breathe 5K run/walk will be Sun., Aug. 2 at Dockweiler State Park, 12001 Vista Del Mar, Playa Del Rey. Registration opens at 7 a.m. The 5K and 1.5mile walk begin at 8:30 a.m. A morning expo and community rally will immediately follow the race. Awards will be given to men and women by age categories.
