Moorpark's got talent
SHOWIN' THEIR STUFF—Above, local rock band Ichorous brings a high energy act to the High Street Arts Center for the theater's inaugural Battle of the Bands last Saturday. At left, Ryan Holmberg, 18, of Moorpark and lead singer of the winning band, Cobalt Skies, belts out a song. Six Ventura County bands competed for a $200 cash prize. Cobalt Skies, which tied for first with The Catch and Waves, will perform at the city's annual Fireworks Extravaganza on July 3 at Arroyo Vista Community Park. Although the battle was lightly attended, band members said they enjoyed a chance to perform in a professional venue. More...

Programs cancelled, class sizes to increase

School leaders this week reluctantly canceled optional programs and agreed to increase class size to maintain core programs and balance the district's 2009-2010 budget. Moorpark Unified School District eliminated the equivalent of about 40 fulltime teaching positions and 15 fulltime nonteaching jobs to offset $4. More...
