Lightning thundering toward hoops playoffs
Team having success in second season
      A couple Los Angeles basketball teams won big games Sunday. The Los Angeles Lightning, a pro team in the International Basketball League that plays its home games at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, reached a season-high in points during a 160-123 victory over Grand Rapids Flight.

Golf championships at Simi Hills
      Simi Hills Golf Course will play host to the Simi Valley Amateur Golf Championship on Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26. It will be the 28th year that the tournament has been played at Simi Hills. The 36-hole tournament will feature play in four flights, including the championship flight, which was won last year by Russell Boring of Agoura.

Eagles fly away with title in tow
     TALENT—The Eagles, a U-10 girls' soccer squad, won the U-11 title at the SAS Kickers Simi Valley Spring Cup.       Football linemen usually get lost in the trenches, literally and figuratively. During the Ventura County Coaches Association's Hogs Tournament last weekend, Moorpark High's linemen had their moment in the spotlight.

Martin leaves Calabasas for Simi job
      Lance Martin, who spent the past two years coaching varsity football at Calabasas High, has left CHS to take Simi Valley's vacant head coaching position. Before going to Calabasas, Martin spent six seasons as an assistant coach at Royal.
