      Sergio Calix departed El Salvador three years ago to live in Moorpark, motivated by the example his mother had set to excel in the United States and make her proud. The young man graduated with honors from Moorpark High last week.

Senior Standouts: Moorpark High School
      Editor's note: Senior Standouts are compiled from questionnaires filled out by the students themselves. Maxwell Dyce, the son of Trevor and Kim Dyce, was captain of the Moorpark High School track team. He played football for two years and was a member of the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, which prepares students for college.

      At a board meeting earlier this month, school leaders recognized three educators, who, during their long careers with Moorpark Unified School District, made a significant impact on students. Cherie Webb started working in the district 30 years ago.

Insurance company presents Lincoln Fellowship Award
      Horace Mann Insurance Company of Simi Valley recently presented David Alexander Foldvary with the Lincoln Fellowship Award. The award is offered to 50 educators to study the life and legacy of Abraham Lincoln. The program is open to any full-time teacher working in grades kindergarten through 12 in any American school.
