Girls win scholarships in Cesar Chavez contest


HONORING A LEGEND—Emma  Hoelker  and  Itzayana Quintero,  both  fifth-graders  at  Arroyo West  Elementary School  in  Moorpark,  each  won  a  $1,000  scholarship  in this year's California Teachers Association Cesar Chavez essay contest. Emma submitted a 400-word essay titled "Equal Rights," and Itzayana submitted artwork which is now on display at the CTA headquarters in Burlingame. The CTA offers 35 scholarships every year for an essay assignment  on  how  the  legacy  of  Chavez  inspires  the student.
