Girls win scholarships in Cesar Chavez contest
HONORING A LEGEND—Emma Hoelker and Itzayana Quintero, both fifth-graders at Arroyo West Elementary School in Moorpark, each won a $1,000 scholarship in this year's California Teachers Association Cesar Chavez essay contest. Emma submitted a 400-word essay titled "Equal Rights," and Itzayana submitted artwork which is now on display at the CTA headquarters in Burlingame. The CTA offers 35 scholarships every year for an essay assignment on how the legacy of Chavez inspires the student. |
