City will put restrictions on smokers
      Smokers will no longer be permitted to light up in public places in Moorpark once a revised smoking ordinance goes into effect this summer. The law will bring Moorpark regulations, untouched since 1993, into compliance with state health and safety rules requiring all jurisdictions to enforce smoking restrictions in public areas and workplaces.

Darth Vader greets new friend
     WENDY PIERRO/Acorn Newspapers THE FORCE IS WITH HER—Moorpark resident Isabel Ventura, 9, feels the evil grip of Darth Vader after meeting him and some Storm Troopers from the movie "Star Wars" May 27 at Paul's Italian Villa in Simi Valley as part of her wish that is being granted by the Make -A-Wish Foundation. Isabel was diagnosed with a Wilm's Tumor, which is a tumor of the kidneys. Make-A-Wish partners Jewelers for Children adopted Isabel's wish to go to the Stars Wars weekend at Disney Hollywood Studios in Florida on June 7. In addition, volunteers and wish grantors Cherie and Leo Maciel of Simi Valley surprised Isabel with a personal meeting with the Star Wars characters, her own Jedi trainee costume, a cake and dinner for her whole family.

      Special Olympics Ventura County will host the HEROES Dog Walk tomorrow, June 6, at Rancho Tapo Community Park, 3700 Avenida Simi, Simi Valley. Registration check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the walk will start at 10 a.m. After the walk, contests and demonstrations will begin around 11 a.m.
