Student wins award in state photo contest

HIGH PRAISE—Actress Carol Channing applauds Andrew Austin of Mesa Verde Middle School as he receives an award for photography from the California State PTA. Mesa Verde Middle School sixthgrader Andrew Austin recently won an Award of Excellence from the California State PTA for photography.

His photograph of a duck swimming through the reflection of a Ferris wheel was judged the best in California in the sixth to eighth grade category of the annual PTA Reflections program.

Andrew received his award on stage at the California State PTA Convention in San Jose this month. Actress Carol Channing and PTA state president Pam Brady presented the award.

Andrew's photograph was submitted to the National PTA competition where he received an Award of Merit.
