Jorrey takes reins of Moorpark Acorn

Kyle Jorrey
Kyle Jorrey has been named the new editor of the Moorpark Acorn. Jorrey will remain in his current position as editor of the Simi Valley Acorn and assume the same duties for the Moorpark edition of the paper.

Steve Carlson, who guided the Moorpark Acorn from its inception in 2003, has taken a marketing job with the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce.

Jorrey joined the weekly Acorn newspaper chain in 2004, working for two years as a news, sports and feature reporter before being promoted to head of the Simi paper, one of five in the The Acorn chain.

The 27-year-old is a graduate of Pepperdine University in Malibu and was named the journalism program's graduate of the year in 2004. He began working in newspapers at age 16.

In 2008, as editor of the Simi Valley Acorn, Jorrey received a California Newspaper Publishers Association award for an editorial opinion titled, "When you can't find a reason why."

"Steve Carlson has helped make the Moorpark Acorn the voice of the community, its government, schools and service organizations," Jorrey said. "I want to carry on that tradition while keeping an eye to the future."

Jorrey can be reached Monday to Friday by calling (805) 3678232, ext. 29. E-mails should be sent to moorpark@theacorn.com.

Carlson, who has a background in graphic design, advertising sales, radio, television and stage, will be available at the Chamber offices Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"Steve will be filling a number of needs for the Chamber, primarily helping in honing the marketing capabilities of our operation and counseling members who would benefit from his broad experience," said Patrick Ellis, Chamber president.

The Acorn, Simi Valley Acorn, Thousand Oaks Acorn, Moorpark Acorn and Camarillo Acorn are distributed weekly to a combined 144,000 homes and businesses.
