My son the chef
      My fatherinlaw bought my 5yearold son a chef's jacket for stirring a pot of soup the other day, and now the kid thinks he's Wolfgang Puck, cooking "masterpiece meals" made from Tinker Toy pieces. So when the boy came home from school yesterday with news of a career fair later this month, he was erupting with enthusiasm.

Nonprofits that benefit women may apply for foundation grants
      The Ventura County Community Foundation's Women's Legacy Fund annual grants program is accepting grant proposals. Submission deadline is 5 p.m. Fri., May 15. The fund is an endowed grantmaking fund to support nonprofit programs focused on the economic, education, physical, emotional, social, artistic and personal growth of women and girls in Ventura County.

      Destino: The Hispanic Legacy Fund recently awarded eight grants totaling $51,000 to programs serving Ventura County's Latino community. In its 13th year, Destino is an endowed grantmaking fund at the Ventura County Community Foundation which seeks to strengthen organizations serving the Latino community in Ventura County.
