Billiards legends ready to put on a show in Moorpark
Professional poolplaying royalty Johnny Archer and Nick Varner will display their slick skills during an exhibition tonight in Moorpark.
Archer, known as "the Scorpion," tallied more than 60 career victories on the professional circuit and was named one of his sport's top 20 players during a 2007 Pool & Billiard Magazine fan poll.
Varner, an eight-time world champion, is a member of the Billiard Congress Hall of Fame.
Varner, who claims to have first picked up a cue when he was 5 years old growing up in Grandview, Ind., won more than 80 pro event titles during his heyday, mostly throughout the 1980s and '90s.
The exhibition is scheduled to take place at Butera's Billiards, 476 W. Los Angeles Ave., beginning at 7 p.m.
There will also be autograph and book signings, as well as raffles for challenge matches featuring the dynamic duo.
There is a $10 cover charge to attend, but patrons will receive a $10 credit for food, beverages or pool. Call (805) 523-3088 for more information.
