Moorpark CHP officer honored

Moorpark California Highway Patrol Officer Kirk Cederlind has been selected 2009 Moorpark CHP Officer of the Year.

The Moorpark Rotary Club, which sponsors the annual event, will host a luncheon in his honor on May 1.

A 10-year veteran of the Highway Patrol, Cederlind graduated from Simi Valley High School and attended Moorpark College and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

After graduating from the CHP Academy in 1999 he spent the next nine years working in the West Valley station in Woodland Hills before transferring to the Moorpark area office in March 2008.

"Cederlind has provided an outstanding level of service on a daily basis," said Capt. Cliff Williams, who heads the Moorpark CHP field office.

Since coming to Moorpark, Cederlind has distinguished himself as one of the top DUI arresting officers in Ventura County, which in turn has contributed to lives saved on local roadways, he said.

"When you consider that the number one killer on the highway is speeding or drunk driving, he's removing the most dangerous drivers that threaten the lives of East Ventura county residents," Williams said.

Cederlind and his wife, Amy, have four children.
