Moorpark resident Mark Monreal had quite a day at Rustic Canyon Golf Course on March 19.

First, he registered a holeinone on the eighth hole. A few hours later, the 53-year-old Monreal finished his day with a 1-over-par 73, good enough to qualify for the Southern California Golf Association's MidAmateur Championships.

The Championships take place April 13-14 at Hacienda Golf Club at La Habra Heights.

"The last couple weeks have been terrific for me," Monreal said. "I've had more phone calls and e-mails from friends than ever before. I think it's not only about the hole-in-one, but they realize just how exclusive making this championship is."

Monreal won the California State Amateur Championships in 1986.
