Doctor opens city's first urgent care clinic
Dr. Paul Morin, a Moorpark resident for six years, opened Park Lane Family Practice and Urgent Care last month to serve local residents needing immediate treatment for nonlifethreatening injuries.
The clinic is the first of its kind in Moorpark.
"We provide walk-in service for urgent cases and routine care for patients with medical appointments," said Morin, who also owns Channel Islands Family Practice and Urgent Care in Camarillo.
In addition to the doctors, nurses and medical assistants on site six days a week, the offices at 145 Park Lane are equipped with a state-of-the-art primary lab.
"A lot of neighbors have asked me to open a local office for years because their children get injured on weekends," Morin said.
The local doctor and his wife, Monica, have three children.
Morin grew up in Massachusetts and moved to California in 1985. He served as a medical specialist in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1984 to 1998.
He received a bachelor's degree in molecular biology from Cal State Northridge in 1989 and earned his medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine in Montserrat in 1993. He completed an internal medicine internship at Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield in 1998.
Morin was medical director of Thousand Oaks Urgent Care and Family Practice for two years in the late '90s before opening his Camarillo practice in 2000.
Thousand Oaks resident Debbie Ashford has been seeing Morin since 1998. The doctor listens to his patients, stays current on the latest treatments and is readily available, Ashford said. "Whenever I've needed him, I could call (Dr. Morin) and he helps."
Morin now splits his time between his two clinics in Ventura County. He employs two doctors, two nurse practitioners and medical assistants who are certified in X-ray technology.
Dr. Krista Preston, who specializes in family practice and women's health, is on staff at the Moorpark facility.
Morin accepts cash payments and Medicare and PPO health insurance plans. He does not accept HMO insurance.
The cost for patients who pay cash is $90 for the first visit and $80 for return visits. Lab tests and X-rays are additional.
Hours of operation in Moorpark are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
