Cancer survivor in bike ride even
On Sun., Feb. 8, I participated in a bike ride fundraiser called Breakaway from Cancer Ride in Newbury Park. It was organized by Amgen to raise awareness for the support of cancer patients.
Tom Piehn, a friend who follows my battle and participates in this yearly event, gathered all the information about it, and asked me if I would like to be his partner in the bike ride.
As you know, I badly want to defeat cancer, but not having the strength and agility to ride great distances on a bike, Mr. Piehn to my surprise asked me to be his partner by riding in a cart behind his bicycle. I accepted with great joy, and when the big day finally came, I was ready to roll.
We started on our 25-mile ride at a steady pace and Mr. Piehn only stopped for one break. Never once did I get bored, because throughout the ride he pointed out beautiful views of the huge homes, golf courses, and many different kinds of wildlife like dogs, birds, squirrels, and many other memorable sights.
Altogether, the event was amazing, exciting, relaxing, and hopefully our effort made just one more step closer to finding a cure for cancer.
As we end February, we get even closer to our annual Moorpark Relay for Life. It will be on April 25 at the Moorpark High School football and track field.
Now I know it seems like you have some time before it is here, but it is never too soon to get the word out to friends, family and others to start raising money for this great cause. Ask local businesses, neighbors, and/or family friends to help you, and the many others stricken with cancer.
Whether it is a few dollars here, or a few dollars there, every little donation helps. With cancer being so common in our world today, we can and should help now for the many that currently have or have passed on from this deadly disease. Please help this April any way you can with our Relay for Life. Breanna Pflaumer Moorpark
