Chabad of Moorpark will be celebrating its oneyear anniversary in conjunction with the holiday of Purim at a festive celebration at 7 p.m. Mon., March 9 at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road, Moorpark.

The event is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.

Purim commemorates the rescue of the Jewish nation in ancient Persia from a plot of annihilation.

The holiday offers treats, costume parties, helping the needy and the traditional reading from the scroll of Esther.

Chabad is a synagogue and social center serving the needs of the Jewish community in Moorpark.

Rabbi Shimy Heidingsfeld, along with his wife Devorah, leads the young organization.
