Learn to sail at UCLA
UCLA Extension will present Sailing I: Practice and Theory, an internationally certified introductory course.
The classroom sessions will meet 6:30 to 10 p.m. Mon., Feb. 2, 9 and 23 at the Extension Lindbrook Center, 10920 Lindbrook Drive, Los Angeles (Westwood).
On-the-water sessions begin Sat., Feb. 7 at the California Sailing Academy Coast Guard School, 14025 Panay Way, Marina Del Rey.
The course will give beginning sailors the skills to command sailboats of up to 25 feet in light to moderate wind and sea conditions.
The course covers commands and nomenclature, rigging and unrigging, tiller and rudder effect, docking and undocking, rules of the road, sailing theory, proper sail trim, signal flags, jibing, safety, and state and federal laws for recreation vessels.
