Relay for Life announces event
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Moorpark will take place Sat. and Sun., April 25 and 26 at Moorpark High School, 4500 Tierra Rejada Road.
In this 24hour family oriented team event, teams of residents walk relay-style around the track and take part in activities off the track.
Teams will include coworkers, club members, family and friends who will have gathered donations before the event.
The cancer survivor recognition ceremony will be 10 a.m. April 25. Cancer survivors— anyone who has been diagnosed with cancer—from the Moorpark area may walk the first lap to celebrate their victory over cancer.
Each cancer survivor will receive a free T-shirt to wear while walking the track. There is no cost to participate. Cancer survivors should call the American Cancer Society at (800) ACS-2345 to register.
The luminaria ceremony will be at 8 p.m. April 25. Individuals or groups may contribute in memory of those who have died from cancer and in honor of those who have survived. Each will be recognized by a lighted luminaria set around the track.
To make a luminaria contribution, call the American Cancer Society or Moorpark High School before the ceremony.
The closing ceremony is set for 9 a.m. April 26.
Funds raised by this event enable the American Cancer Society to support local services for cancer patients and their families, as well as cancer research and community education programs designed to teach people how to reduce their risk of developing cancer.
