B'nai Emet hosts events
      •Congregation B'nai Emet will host a dairy potluck dinner at 6:30 p.m. Fri., Jan. 9 at the temple, 9 W. Bonita Drive, Simi Valley. A Sabbath service will follow at 8 p.m. The public is welcome. •Rabbi Michele Paskow will teach a beginning Hebrew class from 11 a.m. to noon Sundays starting Jan. 11.

Hillcrest school open house
      Hillcrest Christian School will host a new Family Information Night for parents who want to learn more about the school at 7 p.m. Mon., Jan. 26 at the school, 384 Erbes Road, Thousand Oaks. The event will include a tour, introduction to school officials and teachers, and a review of the curriculum. Parents may bring their children with them.

Church will bless the waters
      St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church will have its annual Epiphany-Blessing of the Waters ceremony at 10 a.m. Sun., Jan. 11 near the Greek at the Harbor restaurant, 1583 Spinnaker Drive, Ventura. Celebrants, including priests, divers and a choir, will proceed to the dock for the ceremony.

Called to the Torah
      Hannah Blitstein, was called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Dec. 6 at Temple Etz Chaim in Thousand Oaks. Hannah is a seventh-grade honor student at Mesa Verde Middle School and the daughter of Jackie and Arnie Blitstein of Moorpark.

Programs at Moorpark Chabad
      •The Jewish Women's Circle of Chabad of Moorpark will be meet at 7:30 p.m. Mon., Jan. 12 at the Saperia residence, 12616 Country Meadow St., Moorpark. Attendees will take part in fruit carving, designing flowers carved from fruits and vegetables to garnish any event. Fresh smoothies will be served.
