Mesa Verde wins track meet Approximately 280 youngsters competed in the ninth annual Moorpark Rotary Relays last week, with Mesa Verde Middle School defeating Chaparral Middle School 105 to 56. During the event, held at Moorpark High, many records were broken by both teams. Jayce Foster, an eighthgrader from Mesa Verde, set high marks in the boys' long jump (17 feet, 8.5 inches) and discus throw (121 feet). Mario Rosales of Mesa Verde broke a record in the seventh-grade discus throw with a toss of 94.6 feet. Tyler Puccio, also from Mesa Verde, set the discus mark in the sixth-grade division with toss of 70.4 feet. Michael Picchini of Chaparral broke a record in the sixth-grade 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08.20. In the girls' division, Mandi Duncan of MVMS set a record in the eighth-grade long jump with a leap of 14 feet, 1.5 inches. Melissa Storbeck of Mesa Verde established a top mark in the sixthgrade female 200meter dash with a time of 28.12. Krystine Mohrhoff of MVMS set a new record in the eighth-grade female discus throw with a toss of 62.1 feet. The Chaparral eighth-grade boys broke records in the 4x100 meter relay (50.17) and 4x400 relay (4:11.25), while the CMS sixth-grade girls set a new top mark in the 4x400 relay (5:20.15). |
