Local woman pleads guilty to elder abuse

Toni Radys, 54, of Moorpark, has pled guilty to insurance fraud, grand theft, mental abuse and financial elder abuse with special allegation of a loss more than $150,000. Radys committed the crimes against her mother.

According to the district attorney's office, Radys added her name to the legal title of her mother's home and used the power of attorney granted to her by her mother to procure a mortgage on a second property and then remove her mother from that property's legal ownership.

In additional to stealing money from her mother's bank accounts, Radys applied for and used a credit card in her mother's name without her mother's consent.

The defendant also obtained a life insurance policy in her mother's name, and named herself as the sole beneficiary.

Radys verbally abused her mother and threatened to evict her from her own home.

Radys was sentenced to 123 days in jail and must also made financial restitution and attend domestic violence classes. She must also return legal real estate ownership back to her mother.
