Middle school students see sights of New York

Mesa Verde Middle School ttheater arts students took a trip to New York City during spring break to see the Broadway plays "Wicked" and "Spamalot."

The group also enjoyed other theater-related activities and visited the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Ground Zero, Central Park, Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Harlem, Chinatown and Little Italy.

A highlight of the trip, in addition to seeing two Broadway shows, was going to the top of Rockefeller Center on the last night to view the city's skyscrapers, including the Empire State Building, said Chris Adams, theater arts teacher at Mesa Verde.

"Not only does this trip give theater students a broader knowledge of theater and the arts, but it also exposes them to the culture and people of New York City. For some students, this was the first time away from California. I'm sure they will remember this trip for the rest of their lives," she said.
