McCoy annoys

Regarding "The Real McCoy: Its all pretty much the same, just different," your attempt at humor to prove your point did justice to none. The Moorpark High School Academic Decathlon team won the state championship, and I assure you more people are proud of that than you give credit.

Why not the hype you think an athletic team might get? My guess is the number of students involved. 170 kids play football. That's 170 families. One of those moms would have tried to organize a parade, not the school. I didn't even have to mock the efforts of any 14- to 18-year-old kids to show my opinion.

Your statement claiming "big time college athletes receive their answer sheets days or even weeks before the test" just shows your true opinion. I'm sure you were offended when the new gym was built.

Next time you are in the neighborhood, go in the gym. There are only three banners hanging in the enormous new gym. None are athletic- they are the previous academic decathlon championships. You wanted to know where the eyecatching memorabilia was displayed. Now you know.

I also feel that aca deca banners should be the only banners hanging in the gym. Why? Believe it or not, when other teams come to our gym to compete athletically, it makes me proud when they talk about our academics.

The aca deca kids deserve more credit, but not at the expense of every student athlete.
