Marmonte's finest athletes honored for wintertime work Call it a clean sweep for the Simi Valley High boys' basketball team. Simi Valley seniors Lorne Jackson and Michael Meza have been named co-Players of the Year in the Marmonte League. Jackson was also honored as Ventura County Most Valuable Player by CaliforniaPreps.com. After leading the Pioneers to a 14-0 league record and a 26-2 mark overall, Christian Aurand is the Marmonte's Coach of the Year. Making the boys' basketball first-team list was Ben Ricard of Agoura, Calabasas' Evan Smith, David Buchanan of Moorpark, Simi Valley's Brad Lewis, Thousand Oaks' Michael Whalen and Adam Kolodney of Westlake. Second team: Doug Shumway, Agoura; Dalton Francis, Newbury Park; Josh Morris and Ian Douglass, Thousand Oaks; and Matt Mazarei and Kyle Olandt, Westlake. Third team: Charles Benton, Newbury Park; Cody McVey, Moorpark; Chris Buckley, Royal; Danny Cox, Simi Valley; and Andres Svennefiord and Alec Hess, Westlake. Girls' basketball Royal High guard Erika Ward has been honored as Player of the Year in girls' basketball. Ward, a senior, averaged 14.5 points, 5.7 assists and 2.8 steals per game for the league champion Highlanders. Nori Parvin of Newbury Park is the Coach of the Year. Making the first team were Agoura's Taylor Lord, Moorpark's Lauren Carter, Doris Park-Sherman of Newbury Park, Kris King from Royal, Thousand Oaks' Jenna Bandy and Mhiah Vickers of Westlake. Second team: Hayley Meadows, Calabasas; Megan Natelson and Molly Carson, Moorpark; Sidney Dobner, Newbury Park; Lyndsay Bergus, Simi Valley; and Taylor Ignoto, Westlake. Third team: Brittnay Oster, Agoura; Danielle Ploussard, Calabasas; Rose Lioy and Shana Moore, Royal; Yasmin Sharawy, Simi Valley; and Karina Alofaituli, Thousand Oaks. Girls' soccer Moorpark High standout Kaitlin Paletta has been named the Marmonte League's Most Valuable Player in girls' soccer. The Berkeley-bound Paletta helped lead the Musketeers to the CIFSouthern Section Division II final. Agoura's Kendall Dreyer was named Offensive Player of the Year. Thousand Oaks' Emily Geckle was the Defensive Player of the Year, while her Lancer teammate, Laura Brain, is the Goalkeeper of the Year. Boys' soccer Sam Myerson, Agoura High's goal-scoring machine, has been honored as the Marmonte League's Offensive Player of the Year for boys' soccer. Myerson found the back of the net a league-high 32 times this season for the Chargers. Josh Hibbert of Thousand Oaks is the Defensive Player of the Year. Newbury Park senior Troy Williams is the Goalkeeper of the Year. Guy Sanford, from Newbury Park, is Coach of the Year.
