City wants residents to start walking

To commemorate the city of Moorpark's 25th anniversary this year, the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department is presenting a 10,000 stepa-day program to all residents.

Ten thousand steps a day is the recommended amount of walking an adult should try to achieve.

To help combat the nation's obesity and health epidemic, the department is offering free pedometers decorated with the city's 25th anniversary logo, along with logs for participants to record steps.

Participants that walk 910,000 steps or more between April 1 and June 30 will be entered in a drawing to win prizes from local merchants.

Free pedometer kits are available while supplies last and may be picked up beginning Mon., March 10 from the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road.
