College presents original poetry, songs, monologs

"Singles Only" is an evening of original solo performances of singer/songwriters, monologists and poets at 7:30 p.m. Wed. Through Sat., March 5, 6, 7, and 8 at the Moorpark College Studio Theatre, Performing Arts Center, 7075 Campus Drive.

The monologs include the following. A man gives tips on "The Art of Broad Catching," performed by Daniel Rosales and written Lori Meir. "Aviophobia," written and performed by Jeremy Ridnor, tells the story of a young man afraid of flying who is forced to take his first flight.

Shannon Hewitt plays a wacky sex therapist in a monologue that she wrote. "A Bump on the Road," written and performed by Jeremy Fay, offers the comic point of view of someone who finds his way into and out of a mental institution.

Rachelle Dobin talks about her love of horses and barrel racing. Charles Burke shares his insights about living authentically. Danielle Deffense is a "watcher" and David Harris describes the magic of creating theater.

Valerie Day and Lelani Pruitt sing their own songs and describe the experiences that inspired their lyrics.

Poetry written by Moorpark College English professor Sandra Hunter and Dean Julius Sokenu will be performed by Deanna Bell and Ed Connelly. Adam Poisol and Mary Sagala Verleur will read poetry they have written. Stacy Triebel will present poems written by Justine Amado.

The event is recommended for adults only.

All tickets are $8, available at the door.
