Mayor works for enviorment

Many Moorpark residents may not be aware that Mayor Patrick Hunter has signed the U.S. Mayors Climate Protection Agreement back in 2005. And 25 counties have vowed to do more for global warming through cool cities. Residents can learn more about this agreement and cool cities initiatives at www.coolcities.us.

Recently, Ft. Collins, Colo. installed LED traffic lights in 160 intersections. The city expects to save $110,000 in energy costs and reduce 3,000 tons of CO2 emissions every year, and with a payback period of less than four years.

Imagine what Moorpark residents can accomplish if they set their minds to it. I call on all residents concerned with the state of our environment to look into cool cities and the US Mayors Climate Protection Agreement. There is a Moorpark contact person listed on the site for those interested in getting involved.

Helping clean up our environment also saves tax payer dollars for other needed services and projects. It's a two for one deal.
