Real life Jessie James robs Moorpark bank Tuesday

Authorities quickly apprehended a 53-year-old bank robbery suspect who allegedly held up a teller at the Bank of America in Moorpark on Tuesday afternoon.

Jesse James Salinas of Santa Maria walked into the bank at 510 Los Angeles Ave. just before 4 p.m., brandished a firearm and demanded money from a bank clerk, plolice said.

Once the teller gave him an undisclosed amount of cash, Salinas took off.

A witness saw the man leaving in a vehicle parked near the bank and helped authorities locate the car soon after the incident occurred.

A Thousand Oaks police officer, who saw the suspect heading south on the 23 Freeway, tried unsuccessfully to stop Salinas. A pursuit ensued, authorities said in a press release.

The suspect then headed back north and traveled on the 118 Freeway until the California Highway Patrol caught up with him in the Porter Ranch area of the San Fernando Valley. He surrendered without further problems.

Salinas was booked at the Ventura County Jail. He was later identified by the FBI as a suspect in a number of other South and Central Coast bank robberies.
