Hikers can hit the trails this spring The Simi Valley Trailblazers presents the following hikes in Simi Valley for February and March. For details, driving directions, updates, or schedule changes, visit www.simitrailblazers.com. Following are hikes that take place weekly. Hikes are cancelled for rain. •Rocky Peak, Sundays. Meet at 4 p.m. at the Rocky Peak trailhead at the end of Rocky Peak Road on the Santa Susana Pass. Meet at 5 p.m. during daylight savings time. Strenuous •Long Canyon, Tuesdays. Meet at 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the intersection of Long Canyon Road and Wood Ranch Parkway. Easy to moderate. •The Chumash Trail, Thursdays. Meet at 6 p.m. at Chumash trailhead at the end of Flanagan Drive. Moderate to strenuous. Special activities are as follows. •Mt. Hollywood, Sat., Feb. 2. Moderate 5-mile round trip along the Mt. Hollywood Trail in Griffith Park, Los Angeles. Sweeping views of Los Angeles, Pacific Ocean and eastern San Fernando Valley. For carpools, meet 8 a.m. at the Park & Ride, Highway 118 and 2501 Stearns St. Bring 2 to 3 quarts of water and a snack. Wear boots. •Sisar Canyon to White Ledge, Sat., Feb. 9. Moderately strenuous 9-mile round trip to White Ledge via Sisar Canyon, following a creek up to the California Bay Laurel trees of the White Ledge campsite in the Topatopa Mountains. For carpools, meet at 8 a.m. near Donut Delite, corner of Madera and Royal. Bring 1 to 2 quarts of water, water purifier, layered clothing, and lunch. Wear boots. •Placerita Canyon/Los Pinetos Trail, Sat., Feb. 23. Moderately strenuous 9-mile round trip hike to Placerita Canyon on the Los Pinetos Trail. For carpools, meet at 8 a.m. at the Park & Ride, Highway 118 and 2501 Stearns St. Bring lunch, 2 to 3 quarts of water, bug juice, and sun screen. Wear boots. •Danielson Memorial, Sat., March 22. Moderate 6-mile round trip hike to the Danielson Memorial in the Sycamore Canyon area of Newbury Park. Visit a waterfall and the Danielson Memorial; view the Oxnard Plain and Channel Islands. For carpools, meet at 8 a.m. near Donut Delite, corner of Madera and Royal. Bring 2 to 3 quarts of water and a snack. Wear boots. •Towsley Canyon Loop Trail, Sat., March 29. Moderate 6.5mile round trip hike to Towsley Canyon. See geological formations, mountain views, tar pits, canyon narrows, frothy streambeds and more. For carpools, meet at 8 a.m. at the Park & Ride, Highway 118 and 2501 Stearns St. Bring camera, water and lunch. Wear boots. |
