Theater discussion is entertaining The Simi Acorn is a great paper but the Moorpark Acorn is a far more fascinating read. The melodrama being played out in its pages is priceless. The plot revolves around a former community treasure beloved by all, the little theater on High Street. The city wants to get rid of it to make room for redevelopment. The plan is to alienate the community interest and affection for this historic landmark by turning it into a losing proposition. A quarter of a million dollars later, they have succeeded in insulting the intelligence of the familyminded, and the ethnic background of many of their constituents in an election year! We have a "puppet-master," a "front-piece," a misdirected "arm of the law," cries of fraud against a "dogood-er" group, and who knows what else will emerge. It is not quite evident yet who the "hero" and "heroine" are in this combination of "Chinatown," "Music Man" and "The Great Race." Perhaps Mr. Walsh could be persuaded to come to Moorpark and start a "boys' band." He could even take the train! And just wait for the election process to unfold. Hmmm. I wonder what Mel Brooks is doing these days? D.C. Maggio Simi Valley |
