Margaret Anna Walters
Margaret (Peggy) Walters, a lector at St. Julie's Catholic Church, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2007 surrounded by family members. She recently celebrated her 93rd birthday. Peggy was born on October 26, 1914 in Akron, Ohio, as the fourth child of Karl and Margaret Antes. She had a happy childhood, playing with her three older brothers (all who have preceded her in death). She graduated in 1935 with her RN from St. Thomas's School of Nursing in Akron, Ohio . Soon after she married Raymond Walters and together they had eight children. Peggy was a woman of great faith, hard working and completely dedicated to raising her children. She masterfully did this by continuing in her nursing career. She worked as an emergency nurse, a head surgical nurse, and, in her 40's, went back to school to earn an MA in administration which allowed her to become director of the Crippled Children Society in Los Angeles, Ca. In her 60's, after raising all of her children, Peggy retired and traveled. She continued to be active in senior citizen clubs, played golf, bowled, and served as a minister in her church. While Peggy was in her 80's she, and four other women, helped set up a foundation for a group of nuns who managed a nursing home. She served on their board, attended and organized many fundraisers, and became a volunteer docent. She will continue to survive through seven of her eight children, Kathy Shea, Peggy Jorban, Rita Yure', Tom Walters, John Walters, Jim Walters, and Pat Walters, eight grandchildren, nine greatgrandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Her husband and one of their sons preceded her in death. We will miss her and her cookies and the famous "hobo" bread she made at Christmas time. A mass and reception of celebration will be held on January 12 at St Julie's Catholic Church at 10 AM at 2475 Borchard Rd. Newbury Park, Ca 91320. A reception in the hall will follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Mary Healthy of the sick at 2929 Theresa Dr. Newbury Park, Ca 91320.
