Residents can hike off flab

The city of Moorpark Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department will offer a series of free hikes to the public in an effort to help combat obesity and poor health.

The hikes, easy to moderate pace, are led by recreation leaders and are open to all residents of all ages. Families are encouraged to attend.

•Participants will meet at Miller Park Picnic Pavilion at 11 a.m. Sun., Jan. 13 for a hike along the Seranata Trail. Hikers can bring a picnic lunch to enjoy after the hike.

•The "arrowhead hike" is Sun., Feb. 10. Participants will learn about the American Indians that lived in this area and have the opportunity to search for an arrowhead to take home.

•A fitness hike to the peak at Monte Vista Nature Park will be on Sun., March 16.
