Birthday party brawl leads to charges of attempted murder

Three males were arrested in downtown Moorpark on Sat., Dec. 20 in connection with a stabbing that occured around 9 p.m. that evening. Two have been charged with attempted murder.

According to police reports, the victim, Victor Hugo Hernandez, 25, and the three in custody were attending a birthday party at a home in the 100 block of Moorpark Avenue. All are from Moorpark.

Deputies said a fight broke out and Carlos Rodriquez, 18, stabbed Hernandez several times in the torso with a knife given to him by a 16-year-old male juvenile.

After fleeing the scene, Rodriquez and the juvenile allegedly met with Guillermo Flores Sr., 44, who had driven to where the suspects were hiding, deputies said. At the same time, residents were calling the police to report the stabbing.

At about 10 p.m., deputies saw the two men on foot get into Flores' car. They allegedly had blood on their clothing and faces, which led deputies to believe they had been in a fight. Deputies stopped Flores' car in the alleyway behind the Ralphs grocery store on Los Angeles Avenue.

The juvenile and Rodriquez were arrested and charged with attempted murder. Rodriquez's bail is set at $500,000.

Flores was arrested and charged with being an accessory after the fact, and his bail is set at $10,000.

Hernandez was taken by ambulance to Los Robles Hospital for treatment of multiple stab wounds. He is expected to recover.

Additional deputies from Moorpark and Thousand Oaks interviewed approximately 30 witnesses to determine the facts of the case.
