Girls' softball is a winner

Country Days congratulations go out to Moorpark Girls Softball for their double win at this year's event. The girls took home the Grand Sweepstakes Cup, representing the overall best of show parade winner as well as first place in the youth category with the Paul Harris Cup.

To help celebrate its 25th birthday, Moorpark Girls Softball sent 25 cheering players down the parade route dressed in colorful birthday gift bags and bows. Following the "packages" was a float loaded with players and parents, adorned with a giant, three-tiered birthday cake, presents for the city and a huge card signed by players wishing the city a very happy birthday.

The success at Country Days follows a great year on the playing fields where their 12U teams placed seventh in the ASA Nationals competition in Las Vegas this summer.

The organization, with over 300 players, encourages all girls to come and learn the game of softball, as well as make friends on and off the field at annual events like their Pizza Dance and Family movie night.

Moorpark Girls softball welcomes all girls ages 5 to 14 to join them for the upcoming season. MGS is also offering a free skills clinic for new and returning younger players on Sat., Dec. 6 at a location to be determined.

For information or to register for the 2009 season, go to www.moorparkgirlssoftball.net. Registration is open now through Jan. 1 and games begin in March.

Again, our congratulations for an outstanding effort from a great Moorpark group in helping celebrate our hometown's 25th birthday. Kevin Letson Moorpark
