      Why is it that in the light of the most horrific tragedies the parasites come out in droves. For example, advertisements in last weeks Moorpark Acorn by vampires such as The Mandell Law Firm (half page), Seegmiller-Johnson (half page) and Masry & Vititoe (full page) seek to make money from these tragedies.

      Barely one week after the tragic Metrolink crash that has had all of Moorpark reeling, I am shocked, dismayed and offended to see three large advertisements from law firms in the Sept. 19 issue of the Moorpark Acorn .

Candidate for school board
      My name is Donna Lacour and I am a candidate for school board in the current election. I have been an educator for over 20 years and currently work at a public school in Chatsworth. I am proud to say that my two children attend Moorpark schools, and my husband and I have lived in the Campus Park neighborhood for 17 years.

      I have known Lou Langkusch since 1995. I met her when she walked into the Flory office to register her daughter for school. We asked her if she wanted to be involved and she said yes. We had no idea how involved she would become.She and I have worked together on the Music Boosters, PTA and PTSA at Mesa Verde Middle School and Moorpark High School.

      Ifirst met Maria Elena Villalobos a few years ago when she volunteered in my class while waiting for her middle school bus to take her off to school. She always greeted the kids and me with her amazing smile and continuously showed her appreciation with everyday acts of kindness—imagine that.

Pflaumer update
      Good news, it is official since my last surgery that I have gained 20 pounds and my doctors are thrilled with my progress. This week I will have my MRI of both the brain and spine to compare with the one after my surgery to see if there has been any tumor progression.

Foy says thank you to crash rescuers
      I arrived at the crash site at approximately 5:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12. The roads were already blocked, and cameras and bystanders stood all along Topanga Canyon looking over the edge. There had to be at least 100 ambulances parked just before the crash site, accompanied by dozens of fire trucks and people surrounding the scene.
