Paul Watanabe of Moorpark High School has received a oneyear, $4,000 scholarship from Sempra Energy.

The scholarship funds may be used for tuition and fees, room and board, books and other required tools at a college or university. The funds also may be used at an accredited vocational or technical school.

Sempra Energy awarded more than $200,000 in college scholarships to 32 high school seniors this year as part of its annual scholarship program for children of employees.

The top applicants were interviewed by a panel of company executives to determine grand-prize winners. Winners were selected for academic achievement, leadership, community involvement, work experience, extracurricular activities, educational goals, career aspirations and educators' appraisals.
