Simi softball, baseball teams make CIF-SS title games

Not to be outdone by the school's undefeated softball squad, the Simi Valley High baseball team has advanced to the CIF-Southern Section Division I championship game tonight at Dodger Stadium against Long Beach Wilson.

First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.

The Pioneers (248) were defeated in the second round of the playoffs last year by Long Beach Wilson (28-5-1), which went on to win the Division I title and earn the No. 1 ranking in the nation by Baseball America.

On Saturday, the Simi Valley softball team takes its 30-0 record into the Division I championship tilt against Valencia (28-5-1).

Saturday's contest will be played at 6 p.m. at Deanna Manning Stadium in Irvine.

In 1993, the Pioneers won their only softball section title under former head coach Suzanne Manlet. Eleven years later, in 2004, Manlet passed away from breast cancer.
