Middle school hits high note at music fest

Mesa Verde Middle School's Concert and Jazz "A" bands earned high scores during the annual San Diego Music Festival recently.

Music programs from numerous Southern California middle schools participate in this gathering at San Diego's Dana Middle School.

The Jazz "A" Band won first place with a Superior rating of 96 out of a possible 100 points.

The Advanced Concert band also received first place with a Superior rating of 92 of 100 points. This group was also judged "Best Overall Concert Band."

Eighth grader Quinn Dam, alto saxophonist with the Jazz "A" Band, received an Outstanding Soloist honor.

The bands are under the direction of instructor Samantha Blake.

After the competition, the students and chaperones were treated to a day of celebration at San Diego's Sea World amusement park.
