First Jewish house of worship established in city

GOD'S WORK- Rabbi Shimon Heidingsfeld, left, and Mendy Levin, read from the Megilla (book of Esther) last Thursday at a Community Purim celebration at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center in Moorpark. The holiday of Purim commemorates an incident in which the Jewish people were saved from destruction by the bravery and devotion of Queen Esther, a Jew. Esther interceeded with the king to prevent the army from carrying out a decree against the Jews. Purim is marked with people dressing in costumes and also shouting and using noisemakers during the scripture reading.
