Volunteer Opportunities

Residents are invited to participate in the following volunteer opportunities. For more information or to sign up, call the phone number listed for the event.

•Department of Volunteer Services of UCLA Medical Center in Westwood seeks volunteers for the Ambassador program to serve as guides to visitors, answer questions and act as concierges.

Volunteers must complete a training session, serve once a week for four hours and be able to walk around the hospital and push wheelchairs if needed.

An information tea will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Tues., Nov. 13 at the medical center. To RSVP for the tea, call (310) 825-6001.

•The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to provide assistance to cancer patients.

The Road to Recovery Program provides patients with transportation to doctor's appointments and chemotherapy appointments.

The Look Good, Feel Better Program offers classes with licensed cosmetologists to help cancer patients cope with the effects of chemotherapy.

The Man to Man and Reach to Recovery programs provide support and encouragement to current cancer patients through volunteer breast and prostate cancer survivors.

ACS is looking for licensed drivers with a car and insurance, licensed state of California cosmetologists or estheticians, and breast and prostate cancer survivors to help in the programs listed above.

•Nonprofit Volunteer Organization of Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks needs volunteers to serve four hours a week. Positions include discharging patients, information desks, admitting, ER, surgery information desk, gift shop, recovery room and more. For details, call (805) 370-4716.

•The Conejo Valley Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is recruiting men and women ages 55 and above to assist at nonprofit agencies. Opportunities include:

Shop Ahoy, a program for people who cannot do their own grocery shopping, needs callers, shoppers and drivers to deliver groceries to homes.

Tutor elementary school students with reading, writing and math.

Westminster Free Clinic needs doctors, nurses, dentists and other medical specialists.

Meals on Wheels needs drivers to deliver meals to ill or homebound seniors.
