Active Adult Programs The Moorpark Active Adult Center presents the following activities for seniors this month. Events require a reservation and will meet at 799 Moorpark Ave. unless otherwise noted. Programs are free unless a donation is requested. For more information on any program or to RSVP, call (805) 517-6261. •Jan Clearly leads an 8week class on making gourd art beginning Tues., Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. The class will cover gourd cleaning, opening and decorating. Class fee is $20 payable before or at the first class. Gourds and equipment are provided. New students will not be enrolled after the second class. •Dylan Hull of Select Home Care will give a presentation on in-home care at 10:30 a.m. Wed., Nov. 14. The free talk will cover the pros and cons of hiring a home care company versus hiring privately; licensed, bonded and insured agencies; workers compensation insurance; continuity and reliability of service; and different payment options for home care services. •Betty Berry of the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program will give a presentation on Medicare changes for 2008 at 1 p.m. Tues., Nov. 20. The free talk will cover HMOs, medical, supplemental Medicare insurance policies, healthcare rights and Medicare Part B and Part D premiums. A HICAP volunteer will be present to assist attendees who need help with Medicare filing by computer or assistance in Spanish. •The November birthday luncheon will be at noon Wed., Nov. 28 in the Active Adult Center multipurpose room. The menu features stuffed green pepper, salad and dessert. Suggested lunch donation is $2.25 for ages 60 and up and $5 for those under 60.
