Pumpkin bread makes a great holiday treat
By Joyce Barnett Special to the Acorn

3 cups sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
4 eggs
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon allspice

2 cups canned pumpkin
2 teaspoons baking soda
3-1/3 cups flour
2/3 cup water
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup chopped walnuts

In bowl mix cream, sugar, eggs and butter. Add pumpkin and mix with dry ingredients. Add water and nuts. May add raisins or 1 cup butterscotch chips.

Bake in greased-and-floured 1-pound coffee or loaf pans. Fill pans 2/3 full and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 5 minutes. After one hour put in knife to see if bread is done.
