Artists may submit entries for annual fest

The city of Moorpark invites Southern California artists to compete for selection as the featured artist for next year's annual Arts Festival scheduled for 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun., May 4, 2008, at the Moorpark Civic Center, Moorpark City Library and High Street Arts Center.

Up to 2,000 visitors will attend the event, which features visual art, music, theater and children's activities.

Each year the festival showcases a different established or emerging featured artist with a daylong exhibition and uses one of the artist's images in promotional materials such as press releases and the event program.

The competition is open to all artists in Ventura and West Los Angeles counties. All visual art media is accepted. Material submission deadline is 4 p.m. Thurs., Nov. 29. All materials may be hand-delivered or mailed, but must arrive by the deadline.

Artists are to submit

•10 color .jpeg images on a CD, each image saved as a number 1 through 10.

•Description sheet that corresponds to the numbers on the .jpegs. Include the title, date, media and size of the work for each image.

•Current resume (three pages maximum) with name, address, phone number and email if applicable.

•Self-addressed and stamped envelope for return of all materials.

Work will be judged on appropriateness to a public venue, artistic quality of work, reproducibility and general public appeal.

The judging panel will include artists, community members and city staff.

Applicants will be notified via mail of the panel's decisions.
