City police help in gang sweep

The Moorpark Police Department assisted the Ventura County Sheriff's Fillmore Gang Unit in a multi-agency probation/parole gang sweep on Oct. 12.

This joint operation focused on gang members or their associates who are on active probation or parole. Approximately 25 locations within Fillmore and Piru were targeted by 30 to 35 personnel. The operation also included four motorcycle officers to target traffic violators.

Twelve Fillmore residents were arrested and either cited and released or booked at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility in Ventura on a variety of charges, including probation violation, possession of narcotic and/or narcotic paraphernalia, being under the influence of narcotic, driving without a license, and/or possessing marijuana in a motor vehicle. The age of suspects ranges from 18 through 35.

This sweep is part of an ongoing effort by the Ventura County Sheriff's Department and local agencies to impact gang crime in Western Ventura County.
